my tired reflection
in the rain-streaked window
year’s end
cracking a window
for a breath of fresh air
midwinter
day after Christmas
composting
the wilted lilies
clear and cold
a lone white pine
brushes the sky
the bass backbeat
of last summer’s song
winter sun
an extra minute
of daylight
year-end gifts
midwinter
even the planets
move closer together
longest night—
a pool of beeswax spreads
around the candle
waxing day moon
a seal fat for winter
basks on the beach
turning tide
a starfish wriggles
in the eider’s bill
all-night storm
the pulse of hard rock
from inside the plow truck
