the Sunday crossword
takes all morning
spring rain
spring birthday
all the turtles
crowd a log
deep woods
daffodils circle
a cellar hole
a cardinal’s serenade —
overripe strawberries
wait in a bowl
a few hours of sun
mining bees reconnoiter
the bare garden
golden hour
arranging bits of cheese
to entice a crow
view from the farmhouse
now a forest —
old cellar hole
deep woods wherever I am here
burying the goldfinch . . .
leafless branches clack
with each gust
sunlit trail
a phoebe’s shadow
flags a beech trunk
finch breeze—
a neighbor’s pink sheets
flap on the line
