leaving the river alone

resurrection
a good thing to think about
if you’re a tree-frog
amplified by fog
in the still-leafless woods
winter wren’s song
robin perched
on the egg hunt banner
signs of spring
not the only ones
making our way north
turkey vultures
birthday wishes
driving a few hours south
to find daffodils
blooming early
along the highway
an Easter egg tree
rescued from the street
our first wood frog of spring
how cold it is
It’s that seasonal transition, when winter persists in small ways even as we welcome growing warmth, singing robins, spring peepers, and crocuses. Today we opened a window to hear the first-of-year White-throated Sparrow singing in the backyard, and later, in a crabapple in a downtown park, enjoyed a lingering flock of Bohemian Waxwings, a winter-only visitor that actually nests far north of here.
