forest gloaming . . .
a host of white moths
rises on thrushsong
under a sky full of stars
the night bird’s
incessant cries
rain or poplars . . .
suddenly in the dark
birdsong
flaring sunset —
from the marsh a sora’s calls
grow louder
island sunset
gulls’ cries mingling
with the shouts of children
a parula singing
in the rhubarb patch . . .
June begins
redstart’s song
from a beachside spruce
the perfect heart rock
all morning
a grosbeak’s song loud and clear
apple blossoms
spruce needles
carpet the trail — the hush
after wrensong
marsh at dawn . . .
a bobolink’s song
spilling over the edges
rain-wet woods . . .
above the red trillium
a tanager’s song
