afternoon sun
a bumblebee pauses
on my lunch tray
losing myself
in your dark soulful eyes
barred owl
finally warm enough
to crack a window…
thrush song
the blue
of my grandfather’s eyes
forget-me-nots
domestic issues
a pair of song sparrows
mates in my yard
lost in thought…
a cabbage white flutters
around the violets
just when
I’d forgotten how it felt
beech leaves
still-leafless trees
pondering the motives
of crows
before the rain
oppressive clouds
of blackflies
visitation
a host of waxwings descends
upon our maple
upriver
unfurling ferns
flag the path
