bare branches
softened by fog . . .
first swallows
rising sap
a pair of nuthatches
spirals the maple
loons on the lake . . .
remembering the night
of my sister’s birth
spring river
the green of new leaves
the green of moss
spring flooding
the river the color
of money
morning mist
a phoebe’s voice somewhere
by the river
April showers . . .
a row of empty plant pots
waits by the shed
a whiff of skunk . . .
chive stalks poking through
last year’s leaves
a haze in the air
from a hatch of midges . . .
first phoebe
salt marsh sunset
the cries of a killdeer
hidden by reeds
spring sun
a ladybug’s shadow
crosses my desk
