fresh strawberries
the soft crooning
of my neighbor’s chickens
rattlesnake root . . .
choosing the path
less traveled
summer rain
petals of wildflowers
cling to bare legs
new moon
from somewhere in the woods
a dance beat
mackerel skies
the bleached rib bones
of the last whale
river glare —
three fledgling crows
harry their parents
heat wave . . .
swerving to avoid
the smashed turtle
morning heat
the lawn ripples
through old window glass
restless wind
a whiff of pipe smoke
in the empty house
a fat muskrat
tunnels through marsh grass
first day of summer
summer solstice
beginning and ending
with catbirds
