moon shadows . . .
the lighthouse beam catches
a passing gull
September sun
a pot full of basil
perfumes the patio
washed-out sky
perhaps the last swallows
swirl overhead
restless night
a glimpse of Venus
rising before dawn
waxwings pick
at the webworm tents
deepening drought
morning chill
a pheasant feather
on the kitchen doorstep
trailside shadows . . .
the eyes of the dying gull
meet mine
morning swelter webworms ghost the cherry tree
cloudless sky
every step startled
by a grasshopper
morning coolness
flute music floats out
an open window
sunset’s pink
deepens to purple . . .
surround sound of crickets
