threat of rain
above the perched hawk
a swirl of crows
low point
a small black bug crawls
down the beer aisle
The other day while we were hanging out on the ledges looking out at Rockport Harbor, my husband said he has always wanted to write something that mentions “the to-ing and fro-ing” of gulls. I told him that would make a good haiku. Here are our two versions:
Paul’s version:
McDonald’s lunch rush
gulls to-ing
and fro-ing
*
My version:
low tide
the to-ing and fro-ing
of gulls
late summer
the sunflower
bows its head
mountain path
we overlook
a destroying angel
a new day
crossing the dewy lawn
barefoot
visitation
the chorus of waxwings
hidden in canopy
morning chill
more blueberries in my bowl
than cereal
candy aisle
avoiding the stare
of his skull tattoo
a new month
on my ukiyo-e calendar
flying geese
laundry day
the intimate contact
of static cling
