cirrus clouds . . .
the lawn mower scares up
a white plume moth
sun on yellow irises . . .
a chipmunk sips
from the koi pond
summer breeze . . .
the ferry captain’s voice
carries from the harbor
reading Basho . . .
stems of purple iris
in an old milk jug
moonrise
a woodcock’s silhouette
arcs over the marsh
surf spray . . .
a hawthorn white with flowers
sways in the wind
hanging laundry
a glimpse of my neighbor’s
lacy pink azalea
worthy
of the last line:
irises in the rain
cucumber root
my childhood hunger
to know it all
what, this old thing
lupines in bloom
along the shore path
summer island up at first pheasant
