dog-day cicadas . . .
the treed cat
shifts on a branch
high noon
crossbills chipping
in the sprucetops
skirting the mud . . .
heart-shaped petals
of an invasive rose
back home again the river sounds the same
welcoming
the first daylilies
wildfire haze
independence day
a child squats to pee
in the beach sand
heat haze
vacuuming cobwebs
from every corner
noon ferry
lion’s mane jellyfish
bobbing in our wake
a bowl of cherries
as a thank-you gift
morning heat
unseasonable heat . . .
one crow picks up
what another drops
dense fog
bagpipe music rising
from somewhere in my past
