unripe blackberries
the thunderstorm
passes us by
penetrating
the wildfire haze
a cicada’s drone
perfect summer day . . .
an X of contrails hovers
over the island
the ferry’s list
as we pass the ocean sunfish
following seas
first ripe cherries
on the young tree
morning stillness
ocean swim
a cormorant feather
snagged in seaweed
late-night conversation
lightning flashes
between clouds
dog-day cicadas . . .
the treed cat
shifts on a branch
high noon
crossbills chipping
in the sprucetops
skirting the mud . . .
heart-shaped petals
of an invasive rose
back home again the river sounds the same
