winter meadow . . .
reading in the deer’s tracks
the moment she saw me
winter tracking
the deer want me
to get lost
sunlit snow
boot tracks circle
the crow’s wingprints
bitter wind —
a line of fox tracks
trapped in lake ice
marbled sky
the snow between gravestones
etched with turkey tracks
fresh crow tracks
snow-bent spruce boughs
hide the path
spitting snow
a line of cat tracks
pockmarks a car’s hood
wing prints in snow . . .
somewhere upriver
a chorus of crows
deep cold
a helix of squirrel tracks
winds between oaks
snow day
a set of finch tracks
behind the shovel
clear and cold
a porcupine looks down
from high in the hemlock
