spring wind
a door creaks open
in the hemlock grove
my niece
blooming in her own way . . .
birch catkins
riding my train of thought a pair of crows
crack of dawn
the azalea buds reveal
their color
river glare . . .
he ties a new leader
onto his line
a midstream burst
of marsh marigolds
river glare
immersion . . .
following the deer trail
into a marsh
vernal pool . . .
dark wriggling larvae
of frogs or mosquitoes
the siskin’s song
unzipping
a flap of birch bark
another grey day
the chipping sparrow’s
monotonous song
speeding up
so I can’t pass
