early March a touch of spring in the wind chimes
first warm day
a hawk snatches
a finch from the feeder
reflecting on
what’s left of winter
rain on lake ice
rain softening
old snow — one crow
preens the other
zesting a lemon
for the teacake —
winter wrensong
evening news —
the worm moon shines
through a stained glass window
Note: The Worm Moon is a name for the March full moon.
new snow
shadows of birds pass through
shadows of trees
warm spell
the ash tree’s
runic bark
cabin fever
paging through photos
of leaf buds
dawn flurries —
smoke already rising
from the ice-fishing shack
grey afternoon
less to say
than the river
