rainy crossing
a stream of sea ducks
follows the horizon
rain-wet woods . . .
above the red trillium
a tanager’s song
high enough to mow . . .
the wren’s chatter
as it clings to the suet
hospital visit
an unopened band-aid
in an empty stairwell
early chill
somewhere up the street
a tanager singing
a pheasant hen
hunches over her chicks
lingering chill
***
Happy Mother’s Day to mothers everywhere!
a catbird’s song
unfurling ferns
flag the riverbank
dandelions
the sunlit sheen
of a grackle’s squawk
surfglow
bright Jupiter
hangs over the harbor
island rain
gulls poking for worms
in a seaweed-strewn garden
riversong
birch catkins swaying
at the end of a branch
