crickets . . .
turning down
the hold music
birding by ear poplar grove
bright horizon line—
joyous shouts
from the arriving ferry
sunlit sills
twenty-knot gusts
running loose through the house
engine pulse . . .
the seiners’ lights
burning through fog
morning walk
the snap crackle pop
of grasshoppers in flight
waning day moon
a crow knocks open
the last peanut
suddenly September blues of the bay
island rooftops
just-weaned gulls
whining whining
the lilt
of the wren’s song
writing this poem
zero visibility
lighthouse granite
darkens with rain
