as if I’m not here
the blue winter sky
filling with crows
shadows on snow
the grey of deer mingling
with the grey of trees
winter deepens
a broken branch hangs
on a power line
slow-falling snow
more Covid deaths this week
than last
something in the attic
scratching softly
intermittent sleet
an owl’s call
curled umbels fill
with snow
second day
rain threatens to wash away
the new snow
New Year’s morning
frost disappearing
where sun hits the lawn
Later version:
New Year’s day
the shady side of the trail
still white with frost
rain all night
we wake
to a new river
the year coming to an end cold moon
fetching the mail
without a coat
cold moon
