end of winter blues first crocus
opening a door
to the buzz of siskins
a few slow snowflakes
all the places
where the cat used to sleep
March gusts
distant thunder
the teal’s reflection
fractured by cattails
into the same sky
as the full moon
our plane home
marsh twilight
the grackle curls its body
into a new moon
coots trumpeting
behind a screen of cattails
high noon
rites of spring
quail tracks inscribe
a muddy trail
snow on saguaros
the morning flurry
of cactus wrens
snow glitter . . .
criss-crossing bird tracks
where his car was
bereft . . .
snow drifts into corners
of the empty porch
