first vulture
or maybe it never left
February thaw
the crows
call for a caucus
Cooper’s hawk
winter storm watch
once again the blue jay
knocks off the feeder
acting out
Frost’s snow poem
four crows
a mouthful
of fresh snow
the owl’s nest hole
snow buntings shift
in the dunes
storm erosion
a bluebird sips
a bit of meltwater
clearing skies
wolf moon looking snow straight in the eyes
the em-dash
of a squirrel’s tail
January thaw
safe space
of our backyard
squirrel tracks
cold seeping through
the kitchen cupboards
winter deepens
