chill of nightfall
a few last sounds
from the crow roost
dusting of snow . . .
the wren’s tracks erased
by a squirrel
Monday morning
the jay pretends
it’s someone else
river dusk —
a few ducks foraging
along the ice edge
snow glare —
a flock of crows orbits
the perched hawk
Mars at its brightest . . .
the not-so-distant glow
of wildfires
Thinking of all my friends and family in the LA area right now. Stay safe.
creaking pine boughs . . .
a rusted-out washtub
where the stone walls meet
spitting snow
my thoughts drift
to the deeryard
wind chill
a Valentine’s display
heats up a store window
snow filling in the blank sky
the river rushing past unfrozen wren chatter
